Signs of cataracts

  • Cloudy, blurry or dim vision

  • Glare and halos around lights, especially when driving at night

  • Colors that look faded or yellowed

  • Needing more light to read

  • Frequent glasses prescription changes

How co-management works

  1. Diagnosis. A comprehensive exam measures how much the cataract affects your vision and checks the rest of your eye's health.

  2. Planning. When cataracts start to limit daily life, we explain your options, including lens implants that also correct astigmatism or reduce the need for reading glasses.

  3. Referral. We send your records to the surgeon and help schedule your consultation.

  4. Surgery. The surgeon removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear implant, usually in a short outpatient procedure.

  5. Recovery at Eye Vantage. We see you for follow-up visits and give your new glasses prescription once you've healed.

Slowing cataracts

You can't reverse a cataract, but you can protect your eyes. Wear sunglasses that block 100% of UV, don't smoke, manage diabetes, and keep up with yearly eye exams.

Insurance

When a cataract affects your daily vision, Medicare and most medical plans cover the evaluation and surgery. Premium lens implants may have extra costs, which the surgeon reviews with you. We accept Medicare, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana and UnitedHealthcare. See all insurance plans we accept.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need cataract surgery?

When cloudy vision or glare makes driving, reading or daily tasks hard, it's time to talk about surgery. Dr. Hung measures your vision and tells you when you're a good candidate.

Does Eye Vantage perform cataract surgery?

No. We diagnose cataracts, refer you to an experienced surgeon, and handle most of your care before and after surgery here in Katy.

Does Medicare cover cataract surgery?

Yes, when the cataract affects your vision. Medicare also helps pay for one pair of glasses or contacts after surgery with an implant.

How long is recovery?

Most people see better within a few days and return to normal activities within a week or two. Your follow-up visits confirm you're healing well.

Can cataracts come back?

The cataract can't return, but some people later develop haze behind the implant. A quick laser treatment at the surgeon's office clears it.
